For several years groups of Christians would come together for worship in Sunburst, but it was not until January 9, 1939 that this group met with Pastor Earl Soiland of Shelby to organized their own church. On March 10 of that year the church was formed with the help of the Home Missions of the NLCA, and shortly thereafter construction began.
